SCS has been cold reduced (and subsequently galvanized) with encouraging results. Extreme cold working will disturb the scale, but when reduced in a once through mill, a thin uniform layer of scale - akin to soot - is all thats removed.
Subsequnt re-brushing of cold reduced SCS ensures its smooth, clean, rust free surface remains intact. And it keeps the SCS cost advantage intact as well. With lower cost to the mill than P&O material, and no need to oil after reducing or annealing, SCS can make the economics of buying cold reduced material turn in your favor.
