There's more testing to be done, but adherence of the zinc layer to cold rolled SCS has been impressive. Once again, the motivation is SCS' much lower cost compared to P&O.

SCS reduced from .071” to .025” produced a "sooty" look due to some powdering of the wustite layer in the mill. Without any cleaning of the soot, the cold reduced SCS parts were galvanized. ASTM Olsen "dimple" tests (photos at right) confirmed excellent adhesion of the coating with no flaking or cracking.
